DEMOGRAPHICS & DATA

In a new tab or window, go to https://www.pewresearch.org and then return to read the instructions below.

The Pew Research Center regarded as one of the most comprehensive and insightful institutions for polling data and analysis.

Today you are going to look at how demographics are used in conducting and analyzing public opinion on a variety of subjects.

Browse through the studies—not just the ones that first appear—and pick on that is of interest to you.

You should choose something that appeals to your interests. That study should be…
  • within the last three years
  • selected from one of the following categories: US Politics, Media & News, Social Trends, Religion. Internet & Tech, Science, Global

* * There should not be more than one student analyzing the same study, so be sure to claim your study following the instructions in class. * *

After claiming your study, take a look at the results from the research. What specific demographic groups do the researchers use to break down the data? (Some of these may be more specific than the ones we discussed in class…)

In your opinion, which response from which demographic group yielded the most interesting result? (i.e. most compelling, dramatic, surprising, depressing, etc.)

Compile information below on a document and be ready to share with the class.
  1. the title of the survey/study and its date
  2. a list of the different demographic groups used to analyze the data
  3. a paragraph summary (in your own words) of the overall results of the survey/study
  4. your response to what you believe to be the most interesting result (i.e. most compelling, dramatic, surprising, depressing, etc.) and why this new information stands out to you.
